Welcome to Silverlight Game Development

Microsoft's Silverlight environment offers a new platform for game development on the web. Previously, this had to be done using Java Applets or Flash. Most games produced on the web in the past 5 years have been Flash where Java Applets have slowly been fading since the late 90's and early 2000's. Silverlight gives developers the ability to utilize the .Net Framework and languages for development purposes, opening the door for thousands of new game developers to enter the market. For this reason, Stellar Computer Systems has produced Stellar Gamer as a platform for publishing games and allowing developers to compete in competitions and to get paid in revenue sharing for their game popularity.

Presented here are additional tools and resources for getting started in game developement as well as the details and plan for revenue sharing aspect of this site.

Revenue Sharing for Hosted Games

When submitting your game to the website for sharing with other gamers, you can opt to particiapte in revenue sharing. This will allow you to acrue value from the number of plays your game gets. The revenue will be generated from ads that will be placed on the page with your game. We have provided an interface that allows you to choose the size, number, and type of ads that will be displayed with your game. We understand that this changes between games because of native canvas sizes that you've utilized for your game. With a small game, you may have more room to place ads than a large game. At least 1 ad is required per game. Your revenue share will be determined by the size and number of ads displayed on your game. You can also elect to not have ads on your game for a slight fee lower than that of the advertising revenue you would make off the game. This enables uses who think that ads may deter from their game to opt out of running ads on their game. If you opt to not participate in the revenu sharing aspect because you do not want to overcomplicate your taxes or simply just want to share your game with the public, you will recieve by default, 1 leaderboard style ad (728 x 90) on your game and will not be creditted for it. You can at any point change your opting status.

Game Development Competitions

Steller Gamer is interested in providing the tools and assets required for strong game development and wants to help create a buzz in this realm by offering occasional game development competitions. Our winning criteria will change with each offered competition but will not be limited to specific game ideas. We may at times have competitions for the best action game or best board game, but will not be picky about the specifics of what 'action' means or 'board game' entails. We want this community to be as creative as possible and help provide some of the best games possible so that the gamers out there can have a wide variety of games to choose from. Our first competition will for the 'Most Innovative' game. We've seen a lot of copycat type games out there, so we want you to be creative. Check out the current competition by clicking Here.

Silverlight Game Developement Tools

If you're new to Silverlight development, all the tools to get started are listed at SilverLight.Net. You will need to have a version of Visual Studio 2008 to do the tools offered on that site. Some other tools that may interest any programmer would be one of the few physics engines that have been created for use in Silverlight. Some programming techniques have been posted on StellarPC.com as well as our blogs and several other programmer's blogs.
